Designing Innovation

Challenge: How might we design a model for continuous and sustainable innovation for our client program?

Outcome: A model to provide the mechanisms for open, collaborative idea generation to create synchronized, sustainable innovation over the lifecycle of a 14-year, multi-billion dollar program.

My Role: As a Business Designer, I was responsible for planning, designing and facilitating two design thinking workshops, researching and building case studies to inspire participants, synthesizing workshop outputs, and building a governance model for innovation across a multi-billion dollar client program.

Team Structure: Design Director, Service Designer, Business Designer (me), Visual Designer

Summary: Over the course of five-weeks, my team and I were tasked with building a model for continuous innovation for a newly awarded 14-year, multi-billion dollar Accenture account. To accomplish this, we conducted two workshops to build a process and governance model for sustained innovation.

  1. Workshop 1 Goal: Develop a draft innovation model by inspiring key account stakeholders with case studies and the art-of-the-possible to develop design criteria and guardrails for the initial draft

  2. Workshop 2 Goal: Validate and expand on the draft innovation model to ensure processes fit client needs, design criteria and guardrails, and governance stage-gates are established

The innovation model was refined following the workshop to finalize its key phases and their stage-gates, inputs, outputs, success factors and owners / stakeholders.
